A federal appeals court today set a briefing schedule for a coal company’s bid to prevent U.S. EPA from finalizing landmark greenhouse gas standards for power plants, ensuring that the case will move forward to oral arguments.

Murray Energy Corp. has asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to take the unusual step of issuing an “extraordinary writ” to block EPA for promulgating the standards, which are among the most controversial EPA regulations of President Obama’s second term.
