The agency has been sued under the Freedom of Information Act for failing to release public documents related to its use and review of studies from the Ramazzini Institute, an Italian research organization that has raised questions about the safety of such chemicals as glyphosate and aspartame. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Thursday, the Energy and Environment Legal Institute charges that EPA is well past the 20-working-day time limit for providing documents under the sunshine law.
